Production research
What factors make up the budget for a
radio advertisement campaign?
In the professional radio adverting
production, one of the key elements is the budget. When broadcasting a
commercial, the negotiation is done by the local sales team and
regional agencies, which should cost a fee.
When using voice overs artist have to
pay a fee depending on whether their voice is of celebrity standard, and the
amount of experience that the artist can bring to the
table, if the artist voice is unique it high likely that the artist
will pay less for the session because its something new. On the other hand it
the artist is a well known celebrity the session will
be considerable higher, but that isn't bad news for the artist
because the celebrity should be able to do the voice over in one take and this
will equal out the cost.
The budget can be made up of something
called a usage fee this mean when an artist pays the money in exchange the
artist has the rights to their use their voice on the track this mean that the
artist can make money off his or her track if a different artist wants to make
a remake.
Traffic can also help the budget
increase, when broadcasting a commercial via the radio it would cost more money
to broadcast it depending on how many people or tuned into the
station. artist would usually want to advertise their during
peak hour probably rush hour, so this would have an big affect on the
budget.
What
is a music bed, and what are the three types
The type of music beds are live music
recorded with speech this is where there is a live band and the would play over
the backing track to an life audience this usually free.
Library music is music that is
copyright free it can be found on the Internet and is there for anybody to use.
Production music is copyright free
because it is create by yourself probably on software such as garage
band.
Why does it cost money to use a pop
song in a radio advert? What type of license would you
need to apply for?
If you plan on
using music produced by somebody else you need to obtain permission as the
composition is covered by copyright.
Most pop song have the
own right to there track, nut even if the don't you will still have to pay the
producer money to use track so it is invertible that you will have to
pay a fee.
To preform to a live an audience you
will have to obtain a blanket licence. What is a blanket licence, this licence is available to independent
production companies and producers who make programmes for TV Channels. The
licence covers all our members’ music used in these programmes, so producers
don’t need to seek individual clearance for each of the songs they wish to use.
In Radio
commercial production you need a Synchronization licence, which allows
songs to be reproduced in a television program, film, video, radio and
commercials as background music. A synchronization license is
the license required to make and distribute audio-visual recordings.
What are the
main differences between producing your radio advert using?
Production
facilities available at the radio station itself?
An external production house?
Radio station should be able to help you with producing an
commercial which could cost up to £200-£300, but there are benefits to this the
production company would include a quality written by a trained copywriter.
Also the local station should be able to help and quote
you a price. But the overall difference is that the radio station will be able
to help you with the production side but not the quality of music that you are
producing.
House
production will be able to help you with the quality of music produced and also
with the style of music that is being played, but that doesn't mean that you
will be able to produce it to a wide target audience because the
finance may be to high

ASSIGNMENT TASK B 1: Artist Presentation
Introduction
The artist that I will be talking about today is Busta rhymes,
Busta rhymes is an American rapper, producer, and actor from Brooklyn.
My presentation features the styles,
conventions and techniques that are used in in Busta videos.
The first Busta rhymes video I will be talking about is Busta's
Touch it remix, in this video there is lyrical interpretation and lighting for
the mood these are conventions. A convention is genre typical to the video
Conventions
The video Features Busta and
a variety of artist with own theme for there parts Lloyd
banks, M. J Blige, Papose, missy Eliot and more.
The lighting in this video helps us understand the
artists individual style they are trying to portray to
the audience, for example when Busta rhymes enters for the second time his
background is yellow, this give me the impression that Busta is trying to
use fuse comedy and seriousness into the video.
When an artist uses a green screen is because they are trying send
a different message to what they are actually rapping or singing about, or it
is to empysie and give more volume to what they are saying,
but inevitably it use benefit there video and themselves and to get more
viewers.
This convention uses visuals
to Busta music video will match or interpret some of the lyrics of the
song. Lyrical interpretation can be use to make an artist's video
seem better or to promote and brand. Busta's uses this convention to promote
himself and the other artist featured in his music video.
For example when Lloyd banks talks about
money and wad full of money appears in his hand this is so the artist can
seem hot in the eyes of the audience. if there wasn't any interpretation use in
this video it might not have the same affect on the audience because people
would believe that they are talking nonsense.
Style
The style of video is very Interpretative and impressionist.
Busta directly uses visuals throughout the video to empise his lyrics.
Techniques
The techniques used in this touch it remix are lip-syncing and
cutting to the beat, when using these techniques it make the audience feel that
the artist is actually rapping in the video to give it a boost effect on the
video. If an artist decides to come out of syncretisation the artist rap will
still play in the background but maybe it will cut to a different scene, this
could a build up to an beat drop. Busta has use this technique in his
video to bring the video back to life if the artist feels that it is dragging
on the effect it should have on the audience should go crazy.
BUSTA RHYMES
Break ya neck
Style
In this
video Busta uses comedy to attract his audience, this video is call parody. A parody, in use, is an imitative work
created to imitate, or comment on and trivialize an original work, its subject, author,
style, or some other target, by means of satiric
or ironic imitation. Why is video so effective because of the nature of
the rapper being from Brooklyn it is very unusual to see such a well-known
gangster rapper act in this way.
Conventions
Break ya neck
focuses on Busta rhymes mainly because of the style it. We get to see
Busta and all of foolish behaviour, this technique should attracted a
wider target audience generate more revenue for the Busta and increasing his
profile.
Techniques
The techniques used
in this video are mostly close ups of Busta. this could be a way of promoting himself and get noticed, the camera angles zoom in and out give the effect that busta is filming the video himself the affect that this has on the audience is that you feel like busta is letting be a part of his world by showing you what he gets up on a daily bases.
Busta rhymes
(Dangerous)
Style
This video
uses parody elements to tell there narrative, the story is about criminal
called max Remo who has 48 hours to be convicted of his crimes, whilst in the
car max brakes free by smashing the car window in which ends up with the two
officers chasing him thought the city. This style of video can attract wide
amount of people because they are getting the best of both worlds, watching a
little film and listening to good music.
Conventions
Dangerous,
extends the meaning song, although Busta is rapping about how dangerous his
crew is the flip mode squad it still dose not feel like a gangster rap
video because of the video, this is smart of the Busta because he can rap
about violence and get away with his videos being shown in the day,
improving his chance to become a bigger artist than he
already is today.
Techniques
The camera
angles are very mixed as Busta is trying to create his own film. The video
features close ups, long shots, bird eye view and medium shots. Why has Busta
done this because Busta want to make people aware that rap can be more complex
than just rhyming it take the right video to attract a certain audience.
